Pre-Kindergarten Curriculum Overview

Mizel’s pre-kindergarten program supports a developmental philosophy of hands on learning integrated in all curricular subjects. Jewish holidays and celebrations, which include art and music encompasses a thematic structure to which our students can relate.

Reading and Language Arts focuses on listening and using comprehension strategies; recognizing characters, telling sequential order of events and summarizing story meaning. Students are taught to discriminate beginning and ending sounds, identify letters of the alphabet by name and sounds, upper and lower case high frequency words. Dictating a story and sharing information in clear complete sentences are also taught.

Math goals include recognizing number 0-20, count to 100 by tens, sorting by attribute, creating patterns, recognizing geometric shapes, recognizing days of week, month, year and comprehending value of coins.

Social Studies

Recognize patriotic symbols, know basic geographic concepts: classroom, home, city, state, country, historical events and people of other time and places.

Science

Students will observe and measure, classify, interpret and communicate, experiment and inquire.
