Director’s Report
November 17, 2011 Board Meeting
1) Dalet (4th) and Hay (5th) grade students attended a play, The Borrowers at the PAC Williams’ theater. They will also read the book in the coming weeks.
2) Dads and Donuts Read-In was very successful with a 100% of a parent or relative attending.
3) A Veterans’ Day Assembly was held with a grandfather who served in the Navy on a destroyer in WWII and Edna Lapidot who described her service in the IDF and geography lesson about Israel and her Arab neighbors.
4) A Veteran’s Day program at Kabalat Shabbat on 11/11 had all students singing and then a special poem recited by older students with 4th/5th graders dressing up to represent all branches of service. A rousing rendition of Yankee Doodle Dandy was sung by 1-5th graders with choreographic movements! All veterans were singled out with large applause when asked to come forward. A reception followed.
5) 4th and 5th graders attended Journey through Dance at the Tulsa Ballet studio which featured hip hop to traditional ballet movements.
6) Author visit for all students was held last week. She shared latest book with preschool-2nd graders and 3rd/4th/5th graders had a writers’ workshop with her feedback after sharing her writing process with them. Books that were ordered and sold to students had a personal autograph for each child.
7) 3rd/4th/5th graders will visit the Tulsa Community Food Bank and pack food for distribution-good culmination of our food drive-we filled 3 large boxes of food items
8) 3rd/4th/5th graders will visit the Tulsa Air and Space Planetarium as a culmination of their study of the Solar System
9) Yo Yo assembly for all students to be held after Thanksgiving which will focus on persevervance.
10) Thankgiving Luncheon-52 reservations made + 52 students and staff with a special music program. Staff will dish out the food and older students will serve.
11) I will continue to send photos of individual students to parents
12) A suggestion was made to place my Director Reports as a marketing tool on the website which will be done beginning with August.
13) A special activity that is newsworthy like the Thanksgiving Dinner tips by preschoolers and Prekindergartners will appear from time to time-click on the Turkey icon
14) Weekly News emails will continue to parents, board members HAF members and relatives
