Our History

In 1975, three Jewish families created a school in Tulsa, Oklahoma to serve their children. This bold endeavor was unique for the Tulsa Jewish community. The school was named Heritage Academy which provided an atmosphere for Jewish children immersed in traditions and the Hebrew language while also receiving a quality secular education. Recently its name was changed to the Flo and Morris Mizel Jewish Community Day School.

Since then, the Jewish community in Tulsa has grown, and the Mizel Jewish Day School has grown along with it. Today we see a strong, vital community with the Jewish Federation supporting a day school which serves the particular needs of Jews for faith-based, scholarly education.

A Jewish school for students of all faiths, the Mizel Jewish Community Day School offers Judaic studies and Hebrew classes integrated into the academic curriculum from Preschool through 5th grade classes. Through observances of traditional celebrations and by learning core Jewish values, our children find they become members of a close-knit family that fosters the best in them and guides them towards future community leadership. Today, the Mizel Jewish Day School is the only Jewish day school in Oklahoma.
